Margaret
Flapper Doll
This doll was created for the Parkwood Estates Auction this Spring in Oshawa ON. Click HERE to visit the website and find out more about the Estate.
Parkwood holds a Silent Auction at their annual Gala Ball, and the theme is the Art Deco Era, or the 1920’s, when Parkwood was renovated. This theme prompted a great deal of research on the Art Deco fashions and colours because I wanted Margaret to be as authentic as possible.
I learned that dolls like these were all the rage at that time. Women of high society and high fashion often had dolls like these, and of this size...34" tall..........as boudoir decor or were often carried with them on social outings. Many dolls matched their owner's attire, and some boudoir dolls were seated on a bed in Victorian dress with wide, full skirts. The fascination with boudoir dolls faded as World War II came upon the horizon, but a new interest has now peaked again for dolls reminiscent of this era.
Margaret is made of satins, stretch lace, silver fringe, black, pearl and silver beads, feathers, silk ribbon rosettes, yarn, sequin bands, fine cotton and beaded fringe. Textile pens and pencils and paints were used on the sculpted face. A wood based adorned with Art Deco synthetics complete her look.
Special Features: wired wrists, hands and fingers for pose variations with a Wire armature thru her legs.
Auction results are undisclosed, so I have no info on who won the bidding for her, or how much she went for.
