Shoes and Chocolate
Threadworks is a high quality and diverse display of all kinds of original art that can be made with a needle and thread. It begins with jurying and awards at the Wellington County Museum in Elora, then embarks on a 3-year tour to various public galleries throughout Ontario.
The Threadworks theme for 2007 was "Passions".
I tried to think of things that most of us are passionate about, and although many ideas came to mind, the indulgences of not-so-sensible shoes and a box of chocolates became a vision of "Passions" to me and something that a doll could illustrate.
This doll is garbed in fabrics of taffeta, hand-painted lace, velvet, sheers and other fine fabrics. She has hand sewn beads on her bodice and skirt, decorative yarns for a fluffy hairstyle, and is perched on the high heel of a hand-made oversize shoe covered with satins and gold braid.
This creation was one of my first experiments with a wire armature and a separate design element featured with a doll.
She holds a lace-lined box of "chocolate" beads, and has her eyes closed in anticipation as she brings a chocolate to her mouth. An indulgence, a treat, and a passion.
