Ascent

Ascent depicts what it might feel like to grab hold of the tail of a determined jumping fish that can help pull a mermaid completely above the water’s surface. Dazzling sequins and water-droplet beads glisten on her hair, fingertips and body as well as that of the fish as they ascend out of the water towards the sun.
The construction challenges required a three-sectioned tail for balance and support over a wire armature.

Ascent is 36” tall, 9 inches wide and 8” deep.

Materials: Wired armature, wood base covered in fabric, sequins, beads, cotton, polyfil, sheers, hand-dyed wool rovings, satin and genuine shells.

Special Features: Wired wrists, fingers and upraised arm for altered poses. Highly contoured body and complex pattern design.
